“Redesigning Transport & Logistics for the Rise of Asia”
Founded in Japan in the year 1994 and currently enriched with representation from 19 countries, the Eastern Asia Society for Transportation Studies (EASTS) works with the objectives to foster and support excellence in transportation research and practice and to stimulate professional interchange in all aspects and modes of transportation. In view of achieving its objectives, the society organizes a biennial international conference, which is held at a different location each year to create a platform for stakeholders to contribute to the development of the transport, logistics and supply chain industry.
The 13th international conference of the society will be held in Colombo, Sri Lanka, jointly organized with the Sri Lanka Society of Transport and Logistics (SLSTL). Founded in 2014, the SLSTL aims to create a professional environment to discuss issues in transport and logistics and recommend sustainable solutions for improvement through research and development in collaboration with the transport and logistics industry. The conference is scheduled to take place from 9th to 12th September 2019 at Waters Edge, Battaramulla.
Blue (strength and dependability) is represented in both EASTS and SLSTL
logos. Orange (energy and motivation) is the complementary color of blue.
Orange also represents optimism, clarity and warmth, the nature of Sri
Lankans and SLSTL warmly welcomes the world to EASTS 2019. The Globe
represents international gathering and feathers of the peacock on the Globe
represents the logo of SriLankan Airlines, Sri Lanka’s national carrier. The one,
“1” in "2019" represents the Colombo Lotus Tower of 350 m (1,150 ft.) height, the tallest
self-supported structure in South Asia.
It is with great pleasure I welcome all participants, from around 30 countries who will gather for the 13th International Conference of EASTS. The Sri Lanka Society of Transport & Logistics (SLSTL) is honoured to host this important event in the Asian calendar of transport academia and research events. I trust that the efforts of our Conference Committee will bear fruit to ensure a successful conference and a pleasant and memorable time in Sri Lanka, during which we hope you will take time to visit the many places of interest in the country.
